Introduction

Welcome to Central.Chat. We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, and share information when you access or use our mobile messaging services (the "Services").

By using the Services, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, please stop using the Services. You must be of legal age in your jurisdiction to use Central.Chat, or have the express consent of a legal guardian.

We've written this policy in plain language on purpose. If anything is unclear, write to us at privacy@central.chat and a real person will get back to you.

Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly, information generated by your use of the Services, and information third parties may share with us under their own agreements.

Account Information
Name, username, email address, phone number, password, and profile photo that you provide when creating or setting up your account.
Messages and Interactions
The conversations and media you share through the app are protected by end-to-end encryption. Only you and the recipient can read them — not even Central.Chat has access to the content. See Section 9 for more details.
Location Data
If you choose to share your location, we may store and use it to offer location-based features and personalize your experience. It's always optional.
Usage and Log Data
IP address, browser type, operating system, pages visited, search terms, device identifiers, mobile carrier, and timestamps. These are generated automatically while you use the Services.
Payment Information
If you make a purchase, your billing and financial data is processed by our payment providers. We do not store raw card numbers on our servers.
Cookies and Tracking Technologies
Small data files placed on your device to recognize you, keep sessions active, and improve the Services. See Section 7 for full details and opt-out options.
Advertising Identifiers
Non-personal, non-permanent device identifiers used to show relevant ads and measure campaign performance. They are never linked to your name or contact information.
Third-Party Data
Information from partners or integrated services you've authorized to share data with us, such as social networks or authentication providers.
03

How We Use Your Data

We use the information we collect exclusively to operate and improve Central.Chat. Specifically, we use it to:

Provide the Services
Enable messaging, channel management, notifications, and all core app functionality.
Maintain and Improve
Monitor performance, fix bugs, and build new features based on how people actually use the app.
Customer Support
Respond to your requests, resolve issues, and communicate service updates and important notices.
Personalization
Tailor in-app content, promotional messages, and suggestions to your interests and usage patterns.
Analytics and Research
Generate aggregated, anonymized statistics to understand usage trends and make data-informed product decisions.
Safety and Security
Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, spam, and other harmful activity on the platform.
We never sell your personal data to advertisers or data brokers. Period.
04

Sharing and Disclosure

Your data is not for sale. We share information only when strictly necessary:

Service Providers
Trusted providers (hosting, payment processing, analytics) that handle data on our behalf under strict confidentiality agreements.
Legal Requirements
When required by law, regulation, or a valid government request, or to protect the rights and safety of users and the public.
Business Transfers
In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred to the new entity under the same privacy commitments.
Aggregated or Anonymized Data
We may share statistics that cannot identify you individually, such as aggregated usage reports or industry benchmarks.
With Your Consent
Any other sharing will only happen with your explicit, informed consent at the time of disclosure.
05

Social Platforms and Third-Party Integrations

Central.Chat may let you connect your account with third-party platforms (e.g., Facebook, Google, Apple). When you authorize such a connection, that platform may share data with you — like your name, email, and profile photo — and we may share limited activity data back.

These integrations are governed by the third party's own privacy policies. We recommend reviewing them before linking your accounts. You can revoke access at any time from your account settings or directly through the third-party platform.

06

Data Retention

We keep your data for as long as necessary to provide the Services and fulfill the purposes described in this policy. After your account is deleted, we may retain certain information for a limited additional period to:

Meet legal obligations
Tax records, regulatory requirements, and other mandatory retention periods under applicable law.
Resolve disputes and prevent fraud
Keep records necessary to investigate abuse, chargebacks, or other adverse events.

Once the retention period has passed, your data is securely deleted or permanently anonymized.

07

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use session cookies (deleted when you close the app) and persistent cookies (stored for a set period) to understand how you interact with Central.Chat, optimize traffic routing, and personalize your experience.

You can manage cookie preferences through your browser or device settings. Disabling them may limit some functionality. If you'd prefer not to be tracked at all, you can stop using the Services.

A cookie preference center is available under Settings → Privacy inside the app. You can change your choices at any time.
08

Data Protection and Security

We implement industry-standard technical and organizational safeguards to protect your information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These include encrypted data transmission (TLS), strict access controls, and periodic independent security audits.

All messages sent through Central.Chat are protected by device-level end-to-end encryption, meaning the content of your conversations is cryptographically inaccessible to anyone other than the sender and the recipient. For more details, see Section 9: End-to-End Encryption.

While we work hard to protect account metadata and infrastructure, no internet-based system is 100% immune to every possible threat. We will notify you promptly of any breach affecting your personal data, as required by applicable law.

Your information may be transferred to and stored in countries outside your own. We take all reasonably necessary steps to ensure such transfers comply with applicable data protection laws.

09

End-to-End Encryption

At Central.Chat, privacy isn't a setting — it's the architecture. Every message you send is protected by end-to-end encryption (E2EE), meaning the content of your conversations is encoded on your device before it ever leaves it, and can only be decoded on the recipient's device.

No one at Central.Chat can read your messages. Our servers transmit encrypted data that is mathematically impossible to decrypt — for us or for anyone else — without the recipient's private key.
Device-Specific Encryption Keys
Each device generates its own unique cryptographic key pair. Your private key never leaves your device — not during registration, not during messaging, ever. Even if Central.Chat's servers were compromised, message content would remain unreadable.
Sender and Recipient Only
Messages are encrypted using the recipient's public key and can only be decrypted with their matching private key. No third party — including Central.Chat employees, government agencies, or attackers — can access message content in plain text.
Encrypted in Transit and at Rest
Messages stay encrypted both while traveling across the network (via TLS transport) and while temporarily stored on our servers awaiting delivery. At no point does Central.Chat hold a copy of the decryption keys.
Media and Attachments
Photos, videos, voice messages, and files are end-to-end encrypted using the same device-level key system as text messages. No attached content is accessible to Central.Chat or any intermediary.
Group Conversations
Group messages use a shared group key, established through individual encrypted key exchanges with each member. Only current group members hold the keys needed to decrypt the group content.
No Backdoors
Central.Chat does not build, maintain, or provide any backdoor, master key, or decryption capability — to any party, for any reason. We cannot provide message content in response to legal requests because we genuinely have no access to it.
What we can see is limited to account metadata (e.g., that a message was sent at a given time and its approximate size) — never the content itself. This is what makes Central.Chat the most private and secure messaging service available.
10

Children's Privacy

Central.Chat is not directed to, or intended for use by, children under 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

If we become aware that a child has provided personal information without verifiable parental or guardian consent, we will take immediate steps to delete that information and close the associated account. If you believe a child has registered an account, contact us at privacy@central.chat so we can act promptly.

11

Legal and Compliance

This Privacy Policy is governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Uruguay. Any dispute arising in connection with this policy will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Montevideo, Uruguay. By using the Services, you accept this jurisdiction and waive any objection to venue.

Nothing in this policy is intended to limit any legal defenses or objections you may have to a government or third-party request to disclose your information. We will always notify you of such requests to the extent permitted by law.

If any provision of this policy is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.

12

Your Rights and Choices

You're in control of your data. Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights:

Access
Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Rectification
Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
Erasure
Request deletion of your data, subject to our legal retention obligations.
Portability
Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format to transfer to another service.
Marketing Opt-Out
Unsubscribe from promotional emails via the link in any message, or under Settings → Notifications.
Restriction of Processing
Ask us to pause processing of your data in certain circumstances while a dispute is resolved.

To exercise any of these rights, use the tools in your account settings or contact us at privacy@central.chat. We'll respond within 30 days.

13

Policy Updates

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we'll notify you by email (to the address associated with your account) or through a prominent notice within the app before the changes take effect.

If you object to any of the changes, you should stop using the Services and close your account before the new policy takes effect. Continued use of the Services after the changes become effective constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.

The most current version of this policy will always be available at central.chat/privacy.
